Frequently asked questions
Booking, pricing, the test itself and what the report means. If your question is not here, ask us through the enquiry form.
How is the price worked out?
By the state the site is in and the number of areas tested. The first area carries the visit cost and each further area adds a smaller amount. Choose the city and add your areas in the online form and the fixed price appears before you book.
Is the online price really fixed?
Yes. It covers travel within the metropolitan area, testing to AS 4663:2013 at every listed area, and the written report. It is valid for 30 days. If the scope changes on site, we agree any change with you before doing the work.
Do I pay upfront?
No. Nothing is charged to book. We invoice after the visit.
How soon can you come?
We confirm a time within one business day of your booking request. Most metropolitan visits are scheduled within a couple of weeks, sooner where the matter is urgent.
Do you test on weekends or after hours?
Yes. Visits outside 8am to 5pm on weekdays, or on weekends, are priced at a higher rate that the online quote shows before you book.
Can you test sites in more than one city?
Yes. Each city is a separate visit and is priced from its own state. For portfolios, see annual slip testing schedules.
What counts as one test location?
One area of one surface type, for example an entry foyer, a ramp, a set of stairs or a kitchen floor. If a foyer has two different floor finishes, that is two locations. If you are unsure, list what you know and we confirm the scope with you.
Which method will you use?
The wet pendulum for any floor that can be wet in service and the dry floor friction test for floors that stay dry. Most sites need both, and both are included in the same report.
Does the test damage the floor?
No. The pendulum slider brushes the surface for a fraction of a second on a wetted patch, and the dry tester rolls across it. Nothing is left behind except a damp spot that dries in minutes.
Do you need the area closed?
Only the immediate test spot, about a square metre, while the instrument is in use. We work around trading and occupancy.
How long does a visit take?
Allow fifteen to twenty minutes per location once set up. Five to eight locations is typically a half day.
Do you test new tiles before they are installed?
No. Laboratory classification of new products to AS 4586:2013 is a different service. We test installed floors to AS 4663:2013, including newly laid floors before handover.
What is a P rating?
The class an installed floor falls into after a wet pendulum test, from P0 to P5. Higher means more grip when wet. What counts as acceptable depends on the location type under HB 198:2014. See slip ratings explained.
What if my floor fails?
The report states the gap, ranks it against the other locations and recommends a course of action. Our team can carry out the anti-slip treatment or coating and retest to record the new rating, or you can take the recommendation to another contractor.
How is the report delivered?
By email as a PDF after the results are reviewed. It is written so that insurers, committees, auditors and solicitors can read it without a floor specialist in the room.
Can I use the report for an insurance renewal or a claim?
Yes. It records the standard, method, instrument, conditions, readings and classes for every location, which is what those readers look for.
Will the report tell me whether my floor is compliant?
It tells you whether each location meets the HB 198:2014 recommendation for its type. For existing floors that is the accepted benchmark. The report does not make legal findings.
