Slip testing in Perth

Perth and WA slip testing by arrangement: on-site AS 4663:2013 wet pendulum and dry floor friction testing, quoted per job on request.

Dry summers, wet winters and the first rain

Perth floors spend most of the year dry, which is exactly why they catch people out. Through summer, dust, sand, sunscreen and cooking residue build up on external paving, alfresco areas and building entries. When the winter rain arrives, that film turns a surface that felt fine for months into one that is slippery underfoot. Limestone and honed stone paving, polished concrete at entries, pool surrounds and tiled breezeways are the usual problem areas, along with smooth internal tiles where beach sand is tracked in.

Areas that get wet in service are tested with the wet pendulum and reported as a mean British Pendulum Number and a P class. The British Pendulum Number guide explains the slider, the averaging, and how the reading becomes that class. Internal routes that stay dry are tested with the dry floor friction method and reported as D0 or D1.

Perth and WA slip testing is available by arrangement. Jobs are scheduled on request and quoted per site, whether the floor is in metropolitan Perth or regional WA.

Same method and report format

When a Perth or WA job goes ahead, the procedure to AS 4663:2013, the instruments and verification routine, and the report template are the same as in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, so results sit in the same register as the rest of a portfolio rather than in a separate file from a different supplier. One account contact, one scoping method and one set of results to compare. See national slip testing programs.

How a Perth site is priced

The online fixed price currently covers Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, so Perth and WA sites are quoted per job on request. Send the site details and the areas you want tested through the enquiry form, or call 1300 207 915, and we will come back with a figure. If you have more than one WA site, we can quote them together.

What you receive

A report by email with a one-page summary and a full record for every location: photograph, surface, condition, readings, class and the HB 198:2014 target it was measured against, plus ranked recommendations for anything below target. See what your report contains.

If a floor falls short

Sliptest is the slip testing business unit of Premrest, Australia's go-to for commercial floor care. The report ranks every shortfall and recommends a course of action, often a cleaning change, otherwise an anti-slip treatment or coating. Premrest can quote the rectification, and Sliptest retests once the work is done. You are free to take the recommendation to another contractor. See rectification by Premrest.

Typical Perth jobs
  • Strata common property: pool surrounds, entries, breezeways and external stairs
  • Shopping centres and retail tenancies, including entries and food courts
  • Hospitality venues, alfresco dining areas and commercial kitchens
  • Schools and childcare centres, including covered outdoor areas and wet areas
  • Aged care, hospitals and health precincts

Two methods, one visit

Wet-in-service areas are tested with the wet pendulum. Dry internal routes are tested with the dry floor friction method. Most Perth sites need both, and both are included in the same report.

Perth slip testing questions

Do you test in Perth and regional WA?

Yes, by arrangement. Perth and WA jobs are scheduled on request and quoted per site. Send the site details through the enquiry form or call 1300 207 915.

Can I get an online fixed price for a Perth site?

Not yet. The online price covers Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. Perth sites are quoted: send the site details through the enquiry form or call 1300 207 915 and we will come back with a figure.

Is a Perth report the same as one from Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane?

Yes. The same AS 4663:2013 procedure, the same wet pendulum and dry floor friction methods, and the same report format, so Perth results sit in the same register as the rest of a national portfolio.

Can you test pool surrounds and outdoor paving?

Yes. Barefoot areas are tested with the softer slider specified for those conditions and compared with the HB 198:2014 recommendations for pool surrounds. External paving and ramps are tested wet and compared with the recommendation for that location type.
